New layout

Since I’m not really doing anything at work (and I mean that literally), I thought I’d finish the new design for Evaded. I’m still trying to work out the kinks with IE (which is pretty much the case for all of my themes, it seems), but it should be functional in most browsers. As always, suggestions and constructive criticisms are welcomed and craved.

I also reorganised the content a little bit, particularly the section about myself. What can I say? It’s all about me, me, me, and me. I’ve rewritten my autobiography and added a random facts page, as well as a five things page (which I unashamedly stole from an old post).

Oh, and I added some brushes, Mommy glitters, PSDs, and blendz, and illegally distributed fonts! You guys totally should check them out, too. And if you want to be affies, make sure you leave me 8923473207234 comments, okay? I’ll add you then!

:P.

If only I was bitextual

I’m not going to lie. Sometimes, I really fucking hate living in Ottawa.

Don’t get me wrong - I love the cultural aspects and perks that come with living in the capital city. Ottawa can be extremely vibrant, colourful, and fun. And for a Human Rights and Political Science major, it’s pretty much a haven for intelligent conversations about anything and everything that falls under the political spectrum (which is unfortunately rare in the typically politically apathetic country of Canada).

But when you’re an anglophone looking for a job in a city that reveres French-speakers, well, Ottawa can really, really, really suck.

With my CV now, I should be able to get a position as an administrative assistant, or certainly, at least a teller job at any of the major banks in any other Canadian cities. But because I live in Ottawa, and I unfortunately don’t speak French (and that every office or banking related jobs I’ve searched for has the “Must be Bilingual” caveat), I’m pretty much relegated to retail and sales.

…which, you know, normally wouldn’t be a problem. Except, I’ve never had a single day of retail or sales experience in my life. Ever. I mean, the closest thing to “Customer Service” that I’ve done is making sure that my manager had a double tall vanilla latte ready at her desk every morning.

Asdjkashdsd.

Basically, either way, I’m screwed. Which is totally not a good thing, because my uni fees? Kind of needs to get paid. And, you know, I also kind of need to get fed.

Carleton University, you should really tell your prospective students that even though Ottawa’s primary language is English (70% of the population, apparently), they’re unlikely to get a half decent job unless they speak French.

Akdjshasff.

PS. I’ve finished moving in to the new host, so everything should be in working order. Also, new layout, as you can see. Suggestions and critiques are very much welcomed and appreciated :).

Fail

I love how when I actually do want to post and have something to say, my site is always down, down, down. Then again, I guess I shouldn’t complain, considering I’m paying a ridiculously paltry amount for hosting.

Still. Je ne suis pas amused. Or, you know, something like that.

Thus, I shall be moving this domain over to Dreamhost within the next few days. I know, I know - people ’round these parts aren’t exactly the biggest fans of Dreamhost. But see, I used them for a good two years before I disappeared into blogging oblivion, and they worked great for me. I don’t think I encountered a single day of down time in those two years of hosting.

That, and I’ve been using them host my fandom-related stuff for the past month, and they’ve certainly been a lot better with the uptime and response time than my current host. A lot better. Then again, I’m not exactly running a huge, high traffic forum a la Snark, so maybe that’s why. I guess we’ll just see.

So, yes. If you see something malfunctioning and dying, well, let’s all hope that it’s just temporary, and that everything will be back to normal soon :P.
