Transportation Strike
Ottawa residents face commuter chaos as strike deadline looms.

Don’t get me wrong - I get that unions have the right to strike. I understand that it’s well within their mandate to protest if they feel as if they’re not receiving the proper treatment they deserve. And I want to be on their side; I really, really do. I’m all for keeping the government accountable, and I’m definitely all for getting everyone a fair deal.
But did they have to do it in the middle of December, where ridership is at its highest, and the weather is at its worst? They’ve been without a contract since April - why are they only doing this now? That, and from the interviews with Andre Cornellier (the head of the Transit Union), I don’t think that man grasps the fact that we are in dire economic times. We’re in recession, for fucks sake. And I love how he didn’t even put the latest city offer up for voting within his Union (you guys should watch the videos on the CTV link I gave you).
The city was offering them a 7% percent increase and a $2000 signing bonus (note that the hourly wage for bus drivers are more than double the average hourly wage in the city) over three years, which the Union rejected (they wanted 10.5%, even though the Union head kept on emphasizing that it’s not about the money). My current company (one of the largest Accounting firms in the world) is offering a 2.5% increase over three years to their current contract workers. Of course, let’s not forget the thousands of people who have already lost their jobs due to the financial crunch we’re all experiencing.
They’re complaining about the six paid sick days they have, when a good majority of the transit riders don’t even have one.
I don’t understand this.
I’m trying really hard to stay positive and not be bitter, but I’m not going to lie - that’s a getting a bit hard to do, since it’s looking like I’m going to have to shell upwards of $300 to $400 in the next week and a half on cab fares to get to work and my final exams.

My Answers Part 2
What can I say? I’ve been having way too many sexy times with my Law textbook. Nevertheless, here is the second part of the post I made a few days ago, where I answer some more questions.
My Answers Part 1
A few days ago, I made a post asking you guys to ask me some questions. I’m going to split up my answers into three posts (Amanda’s question gets its own post, because she’s special) - mainly because I don’t want to bore you guys with a super long post. Aww, heck. Who am I kidding? I’m just lazy, really :P.
Anyway, in random order, here’s the first part.
