An ode (of sorts) to soberness

…primarily because sober is probably the last thing I will be in a few hours :B. Umm, yay for finally having my friends back in the same area code after losing them to Calgary, Halifax, Johannesburg, Sudbury, Bangkok, and wherever else for four months? It’ll be good to have everyone back together again for some drinks, dancing, and karaoke-ing.

So, anyway, before I go out and paint the town yellow (because red is clearly overrated :P), I present to you:

The Top Five Non-Alcoholic Drinks That Are Made of Awesomesauce.

Taro Bubble Tea
I don’t think I can be Asian, if I don’t include Bubble Tea in this list. And rightly so, because this drink is super awesome. You have not lived, if you haven’t tried this before. It’s a fusion of tea (usually black tea), milk, lots of tapioca pearls or green apple jelly (or both if you’re like me :P), and your choice of flavouring (from chocolate to honeydew to papaya to a whole lot of other stuff). I don’t usually bother with the other flavours though, because taro? Is. Just. That. Good.

Avocado Milk Shake
I know, I know - avocado plus milk doesn’t exactly sound like the most appetizing thing in the world. But believe me, it really does taste good. In fact, it’s so good, I’m drinking one now ;). I normally load the avocado and milk with lots of ice and a bit of sugar into a blender, until it becomes all thick and creamy. I’ve seen some Vietnamese restaurants serve it with chocolate syrup mixed in, but I think it’s already perfect just the way it is.

Mango Smoothie
My mom used to make me these everyday after school when I was younger, and I guess it just kind of stuck with me. I’m a big fan of mangoes, so when it’s blended in with ice and a splash of orange juice? Awesomepie. It’s super refreshing, very easy to make, and absolutely perfect for the sweltering summer months.

Caramel Latte Macchiato
Oh, caramel latte macchiatos. I don’t think I can function well during the day, without having at least a cup of this in the morning. It’s a bit too sweet for some, but I think it’s brilliant. Done right, it could be the perfect blend of sugar, spice, and everything nice :D.

Berliner Weisse
All right, so technically, this shouldn’t count because it has 2.5% alcohol in it. But, umm, I’m Canadian. We all know anything below 4% is really just juice :P. That, and this particular incarnation of beer is usually so heavily doused with syrup, that the alcoholic content is practically nullified. But, oh, it is yummy. I haven’t had any since I left Germany, unfortunately, but one day I’ll find a pub that serves this here in Ottawa. One day.

What are your favourite non-alcoholic drinks?

And with that, I am off :). Have a great weekend, everyone!

I go to Hong Kong yearly but then, I never got to taste bubble tea. I usually satisfy myself with milk tea or bottled ones. But I do love Quickly’s Taro! :D
I also like fraps, Chai latte and orange juice.

I have yet to find anywhere in my city that does bubble tea, let alone taro bubble tea, but I REALLY want to try it.

My favourite non-alcoholic drink is Pepsi Max. I’m disgustingly unhealthy, obviously.

@nellie: Yes, Hamilton does suck for not having an bubble tea/PMT outlet! :( Nearly died without it :P One of the (many?) things that they lack and make me miss Auckland more..
