Twilight spoof trailer.
It’s not exactly a secret that I’m not a big fan of Twilight. However, as much as dislike Edward Cullen’s sparkliness and Bella’s inherent Mary Sueism, there are just some Twilight related things that I can’t help but like.
Like this one:
Notable quotes:
Edward: Are you afraid?
Bella: I’m only afraid of losing you. And that Burger King guy…he really freaks me out.
Bella: So, what, now he wants to kill me?
Edward: No, he wants my candy bar!
James: Tell him to avenge you. Tell him!
Bella: Oh…okay…anything else you want me to tell him?
James: Yeah, uh, he owes me twenty bucks from the last poker game we played. And…and…I’ve had James, that name, for too long. Tell him…tell him to call me General Pain…
WIN.
And, you know, if that wasn’t enough, I shall leave you with this:

PS. Youtube, what the fudge? Why is your code not valid, dang it?
Let’s get something straight, Canada.

So. My boyfriend Adam van Koeverden? He placed eighth last night in the K1 1000m kayaking race, after being one of the favourites to win it. I’m not going to lie - I’m sad that he didn’t win. But am I disappointed in him? No, never. I can’t even fathom just how devastating this must be to him - he doesn’t need me (or anyone else, for that matter) to try and further the blow.
I am disappointed in some of the horrible comment reactions found here and here, though. He’s been called a disgrace, an embarrassment, and as “nothing but a fraudulent pretty boy”.
There’s so much emphasis placed on getting medals and reaching the top of the podium, that I think so many people are failing to see the fact that it’s an honour to even have these athletes who are willing to step up and represent us - medal or not.
Can you imagine the hard work and the sacrifices these athletes have to make to even just get to the Olympics?
Let’s get something out in the open right now: we are not entitled to anything.
We. Are. Not. Entitled. To. Anything.
Because unless we’re the ones training hard eight to twelve hours every day; spending tens of thousands of dollars on gear, equipment, coaches, and meets; putting our lives on hold for at least four years; and getting little to no support from the country we’re representing, who are we to say that anyone at the Olympic level (or heck, even at a provincial or national level) is a disgrace?
Medals are great, don’t get me wrong. I’m proud of each and every one of the Canadians who’ve won medals so far (even the Equestrian team!). But I’m also proud of all the other athletes who didn’t win any. Why? Because they went for it. They went for their dreams, regardless of the adversity. They worked hard, they sacrificed a lot, and did a fucking whole lot more than just sit on their asses and criticise everyone else.
Anyway.
Good luck on the K1 500m race tomorrow, Adam.
ETA: My friends and I stayed up until 3AM this morning to watch the K1 500, and CONGRATULATIONS, ADAM, FOR WINNING THE SILVER. I knew you could do it :).
New layout, homies.
New layout, as you can see. And, good lord, this took a while to do. It’s been a while since I started a theme from scratch, and holy crap, it’s crazy how coding standards and practices can drastically change in a couple of years.
I seriously felt like I was back in 2001 again, just starting and learning about HTML. Thank god there are awesomesauce tutorial sites like Tutorialtastic and Eruanna.net available to help and save my sanity. That’s right - no Funky Chickens or Lissa Explains It All for me, bitch :P.
The mark up isn’t perfect, and it isn’t as clean as I’d like it to be, but erm, it’s valid :B. And it works. And it looks kind of pretty with the blue and stuff. So, that has to count for something, right?
Oh, and exams are finally over. I’m freeeeeeeee. (For the next two weeks.)
Edit 1: Dang it. This looks really, really, really messed up in IE6, and I don’t even know where to begin to fix it. Halp, please?
Edit 2: I fixed the IE6 problem. Sort of. I just made a new stylesheet specifically for the earlier versions of IE. It doesn’t look exactly the same as the original, but at least it doesn’t look as messed up as it did before. Someday, I’ll sit down and go over what went wrong. But for now, I’m satisfied with my little quasi band aid solution :).
